Volunteering Opportunities

Volunteer opportunities for young people at the Geffrye

(c) Jayne Lloyd / Geffrye Museum

The museum offers young people aged 14-24 an opportunity to volunteer and gain practical hands-on skills in a team environment. Volunteers can help programme, market and facilitate events or develop public speaking skills and lead visitors on a tour of our exhibitions and period rooms. Past volunteering opportunities included becoming Young Games Makers for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Young people worked in the Technology Team at the Water Polo Arena and were responsible for delivering statistics and athlete information to journalists and TV reporters. The idea behind each volunteering role is for young people to gain hands-on skills in the creative sector and gain a nationally recognised award such as a Vinspire V50 Award which they are able to use in portfolios and on their CVs and UCAS forms.

We provide refreshments and repay all travel costs to and from the museum for all volunteering roles.

Are you, or a young person you know, interested in voicing your opinion, meeting people, having fun?

We welcome all young people aged 14-24 who are interested in becoming a member of our Youth Advisory Panel. Members meet on the second Monday of each month, between 5-7pm to discuss upcoming events, marketing materials and ways to make our programme and the museum more youth-friendly.

As a member of the panel, you have a chance to be involved in:

  • Running large-scale events for the public with other young people
  • Programming your own workshops
  • Working with other museums and organisations to consult on their resources and events
  • Working with staff from across the museum
  • Working with professional photographers and production companies to create exhibition content
  • And lots more!
