May Half-Term Holidays: Patterns, Patterns, Patterns!

Tuesday 30 May - Friday 2 June, 10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm. Free. For ages 5 - 16 years.

Creative workshops inspired by the many patterns found in the museum and gardens.  Make patterned t-shirts, tote bags, wallpaper, badges, prints and much more!  Celebrating Chelsea Fringe.

Places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis 30 minutes before the activities start. All children aged 11 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Tuesday 30 May

Nursery Rhyme Time (age 2 - 5)

10.30 - 11.30am and 12 - 1pm

Stories, crafts and songs for our younger visitors.

Sensational Sun-Catchers (age 5+)

10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm

Make a colourful sun-catcher of your favourite animal.

Trellis and Bird Wallpaper (age 8+)

2 - 4pm

Create a repeat pattern with natural motifs like the designer William Morris and print your own wallpaper. Celebrating Chelsea Fringe.

Miniature Show Garden (all ages)

Drop in anytime between 2 - 4pm

Be inspired by patterns in the museum’s gardens to create a winning garden of your own. Celebrating Chelsea Fringe.

Digital Paintings Trail (age 5 - 14)

Drop in anytime between 10am - 4.30pm

Explore the museum, complete a trail and collect your prize from the quiz desk!

Wednesday 31 May

Totally Awesome Totes (age 5+)

Draw simple repeating patterns inspired by nature and print your own tote bag. Celebrating Chelsea Fringe.

Funky Felt Badges (age 8+)

2 - 4pm

Make a funky flower badge using the wet felting technique and decorate it with Indian Kantha embroidery. Celebrating Chelsea Fringe.

Soap Factory (age 11+)

2 - 4pm

Create your own mini soaps with a personalised aromatherapy fragrance.

Thursday 1 June

Nursery Rhyme Time - Plant Hunters (age 2 - 5)

10.30 - 11.30am and 12 - 1pm

Join the Victorian plant hunters for an adventure in this interactive storytelling and craft session. Celebrating Chelsea Fringe.

Stitched Animals (age 5+)

10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm

Have a go at sewing, learn new stitches and make a picture of your favourite animal.

Mini Canvas Prints (age 8+)

2 - 4pm

Print a mini set of canvases inspired by our collection of furniture to create a cool display in your bedroom.

Window Wonders (all ages)

2 - 4pm

Create a stunning light-catcher to hang in your bedroom inspired by pattern from around the world.

Friday 2 June

Make a glittering portrait inspired by the pattern art of Gustav Klimt and Art Nouveau.

Patterned Vases (age 8+)

2 - 4pm

Explore decorative glass and ceramics in the collection then create your own patterned vase.

Screen-Printed T-Shirts (age 11+)

2 - 4pm

Learn how to screen print and decorate a t-shirt with an abstract design inspired by nature. Celebrating Chelsea Fringe.

Summer Holiday activities: Upcycle it!

Tuesday 25 July - Friday 4 August, 10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm. Free. For ages 5 - 16 years.

Use your favourite patterns from the museum and gardens to create stunning stained glass, wacky wallpaper and patterned prints. 

Places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis 30 minutes before the activities start. All children aged 11 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Visit Geffrye Explorers for our children's activities that are available every Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
