Autumn Half-term activities: Home Thoughts 

Tuesday 24 – Friday 27 October 2017, 10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm. Free

Creative workshops exploring how we make, keep and spend our time at home. New! Fun digital sessions including animation and designing your own advert for a servant in Victorian times.

Holiday activities are for children aged 2 - 16 and are free for individuals and their families. Places are allocated on a first-come first-served basis, booking opens 30 minutes before the session begins. Our workshops can be busy, please arrive early to avoid disappointment. Children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult.

Tuesday 24 October

Nursery Rhyme Time: Where, Oh Where, is a Home for Me? - for ages 2 - 4 years

10.30 - 11.30am and 12 - 1pm (16 places available)

Mabel finds a new home in this interactive storytelling and craft session.

Fantastic Fabric Paintings - for ages 5 and over

10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Print, draw and paint your own tea towel design then help mum and dad with the dishes!

Beautiful Books - for ages 8 and over

2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Learn how to make a handmade book and personalise it with an embroidered cover.

Board Games - for ages 11 and over

2 - 4pm (12 places available)

Make your own chess board and pieces from clay, then learn to play!

Articulated Puppet - All ages

Drop in anytime between 2 - 4pm (20 places available)

Make an articulated friend to travel with you wherever you go.

Nursery Rhyme Time: Sweet Treats - for ages 2 - 4 years

10.30 - 11.30am and 12 - 1pm (16 places available)

Learn about delicious celebration foods in this interactive storytelling and craft session.

Night Lights - for ages 5 and over

10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Create a luminous light sculpture for your room inspired by Diwali, the Hindu festival of light.

Shrinkable Accessories - for ages 8 and over

2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Use amazing shrinking plastic to create badges, magnets and key rings.

Objects Alive! - All ages

Drop in anytime between 2 - 4pm (15 family places available)

Make objects come alive with the magic of digital animation in this digital and craft workshop.

Vietnamese Ceramics - All ages

Drop in anytime between 2 - 4pm (20 places available)

Decorate a ceramic rice spoon with a colourful design inspired by Vietnamese culture.

Handling Station - All ages

Drop in anytime between 12.30 - 4.30pm 

Get hands-on with our collections and discover the stories behind them. Run by members of our youth programme.

Nursery Rhyme Time: Whistle while you work - for ages 2 - 4 years

Explore housework through history in this interactive storytelling and craft session.

Framed Memories - for ages 5 and over

10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Make a special 3-D frame for treasured keepsakes of your home and family.

Travelling Bird Feather Duster - for ages 8 and over

2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Sculpt a bird-shaped handle from clay to create a flighty feather duster. 

Stick House - for ages 11 and over

2 - 4pm (12 places available)

Make a building using only matchsticks (and glue)!

That's My Room! - All ages

Halloween Dream - for ages 5 and over

Create a scary halloween costume with magic hats, ghoulish accessories and face painting.

Celebration Bags - for ages 8 and over

Design and print a tote bag inspired by the festivals you celebrate at home.

Film a funny advert looking for a 17th century servant in this digital and craft workshop. 

Puzzle Makers - All ages

Get in the mood for spring! Bake herbal biscuits, create seasonal headwear and take part in a treasure hunt around the gardens. 

All activities are free and are for individual children and families and are suitable for children aged 5 -16 years old. All workshops are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis 30 minutes before the workshop begins. All children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult.
