Leave a legacy

Support the Geffrye Museum of the Home

Pass on your Geffrye Museum by leaving a gift in your will

“I cannot think of a better way of saying thank you for so many happy memories and helping to secure a future for the Geffrye than leaving a gift in my will”

Friend of the Geffrye Museum

The Geffrye has a particular way of capturing people’s hearts. Whether you come for events, to learn, or simply be inspired and recall childhood memories, the Geffrye is a special place where everyone can feel at home. By remembering the Geffrye in your will, you’ll ensure that a place you value and care about can continue to thrive for future generations.

How your legacy can help

Legacies are used to support many different aspects of the Geffrye’s work, from conserving and looking after items in the collections, to running creative workshops and maintaining the Grade 1 listed buildings and period gardens. For example:

£500 could help with the costs of conserving a painting or object in the collection.

£1,000 enables approximately 100 school children to take part in taught sessions at the Geffrye.

£5,000 helps us to bring Christmas Past to life every year for nearly 15,000 visitors.

In general it is better if you don’t restrict your legacy to a specific area of work, as our collections and programmes do change over time and a very specific condition may mean we are unable to use your gift. Do get in touch if you would like to discuss this.

How to leave a legacy

Leaving a legacy is a simple way to support the Geffrye, and costs you nothing during your lifetime. Just tell your solicitor you want to include the Geffrye Museum Foundation* in your will and what you want to leave. Along with our name and address, you will need to tell your solicitor our charity registration number. The information you need is:

The Geffrye Museum of the Home
136 Kingsland Road
London E2 8EA

The Geffrye Museum Foundation, Registered Charity No. in England and Wales: 1157799

When writing or updating your will we recommend you seek professional advice from a solicitor.

* The Geffrye Museum has set up a separate Foundation to safeguard donations and help provide longer-term support for the museum.

“To be involved with such a cherished museum as the Geffrye has made me a lifelong supporter. I want to continue this support and ensure future generations can enjoy discovering this hidden gem, so I have recently altered my will to include a gift to the Geffrye.”
