Creative Workshops

These workshops are free and suitable for young people aged 11 to 19. Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis 30 minutes in advance of each workshop.


Art-house Animations

  • Saturday 4 February, 2.00 - 4.00pm


Create your own animation using handling objects from the museum's collection.

Pineapple Cupcakes

  • Wednesday 15 February, 2.00 - 4.00pm


Bake yummy pineapple-flavoured cupcakes and then create tasty tropical smoothies.

Carved Patterns

  • Friday 17 February, 2.00 - 4.00pm


Design and carve a wooden box to take home.

Brilliant Biscuits

  • Saturday 3 March, 2.00 - 4.00pm


Use lavender from the herb garden and lemon to bake biscuits and create a beautiful box to put them in.

Exquisite East

  • Saturday 7 April, 2.00 - 4.00pm


Look at pattern and colour in eastern objects and create a felt wall hanging to decorate your home.

Blue and White Beauties

  • Saturday 5 May, 2.00 - 4.00pm


Take inspiration from Chinese, Dutch and English ceramics and decorate a plate to take home and use.

Light Fantastic

  • Saturday 2 June, 2.00 - 4.00pm


Design your own Art Deco or Art Nouveau lampshade.

Become a Young Volunteer


Member of the Youth Advisory Panel for Stories of the World

A young volunteer at the Geffrye Museum


During the school holidays you will be able to participate in fun and creative training sessions, with the aim of choosing and researching your favourite objects in the museum. Along with other young volunteers, you will have the opportunity to develop stories and rehearse a tour for families visiting the museum. Come along and learn new skills, meet new people and have fun! We welcome all young people aged 14-24 who are interested in becoming young volunteers.

We welcome all young people aged 14 - 21 who are interested in becoming a member of our Youth Advisory Panel. The Youth Panel meets on the second Monday of each month, from 5.00 - 7.00pm.

Are you interested in voicing your opinion, meeting people, having fun? Have a chance to be involved in:

  • Running large-scale events for the public with other young people
  • Programming your own workshops
  • Working with a new design company
  • Working with staff from across the museum


And lots more. The panel is for enthusiastic young people.

The Geffrye Museum offers youth groups one-off art, craft, cooking, writing, sound and performance sessions as well as longer-term creative projects which take place in the evenings in term time or during the half terms and holidays. Sessions and projects can be tailored to suit the groups' interests and needs.
