Inside Outside: Summer holiday free activities

Tuesday 26 July - Friday 12 August (weekdays except Mondays), 10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm

Three exciting weeks exploring how people spend their time inside at home or outside in the garden. Create board games, servant boxes, garden sketchbooks and more.

All activities are free and are for individual children and families and are suitable for children aged 5-16 years old. All workshops are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis 30 minutes before the workshop begins. All children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult.

Week 1 - Tuesday 26 – Friday 29 July

Snap Dragons - for ages 5 and over

10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Print a set of playing cards inspired by what you can see in the gardens.

Chimney Sweep Puppets - for all ages

2 - 3pm and 3 - 4pm (24 places available)

Make a lucky chimney sweep puppet using card, fabric and other materials.

Wednesday 27 July

Humming Honey Pots - for ages 5 and over

10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Craft a honey pot complete with mini bees using clay.

Silly Signs - for all ages

2 - 3pm and 3 - 4pm (24 places available)

Decorate a wacky wooden sign to put on your bedroom door.

Thursday 28 July

Bug Mugs - for ages 5 and over

10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Create your own bug and bloom-inspired travel mug to use indoors or outdoors.

Good Game - for all ages

2 - 3pm and 3 - 4pm (24 places available)

Make a crazy cup and ball game inspired insects and flowers.

Friday 29 July

Giant Bee Sculptures - for ages 5 and over

10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Construct a brilliant bee-shaped sculpture using card, newspaper and other materials.

Wonderful Wellies - for all ages

2 - 3pm and 3 - 4pm (24 places available)

Paint a wacky wellington boot-shaped ceramic pot to keep your pens in.

Dust Gazing - for all ages

Make a dust-inspired sparkly mobile to hang in your room.

Pineapple Pots - for all ages

2 - 3pm and 3 - 4pm (24 places available)

Turn a jam jar into a pineapple-inspired pot to put useful things in.

Wednesday 3 August

Secret Servant Boxes - for ages 5 and over

10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Create a special storage box with hidden compartments to keep your things in.

Brilliant Bird Feeders - for all ages

2 - 3pm and 3 - 4pm (24 places available)

Use recycled materials to create a colourful bird feeder for your garden.

Thursday 4 August

Gorgeous Garden Sketchbooks - for ages 5 and over

10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Make a garden-inspired notebook and fill with sketches and real plants.

Sir Robert Geffrye Scarecrows - for all ages

2 - 3pm and 3 - 4pm (24 places available)

Help to make a giant scarecrow and then craft mini versions to take home.

Friday 5 August

Bugs on the Ball - for ages 5 and over

10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Make a mini fun football game with insect-shaped players using recycled materials.

Terrific Tea Lights - for all ages

Paint a gorgeous glass tea-light holder inspired by Geffrye patterns to celebrate summer.

Painted Pieces- for all ages

Paint a ceramic item with Geffrye patterns to take home.

Hanging Around - for all ages

2 - 3pm and 3 - 4pm (24 places available)

Create a hanging buzzy bee-shaped decoration for your home.

Wednesday 10 August

Buzzy Bees - for all ages

10.30 - 11.30am, 11.30am - 12.30pm, 2 - 3pm and 3 - 4pm (24 places available)

Make a brilliant bee-shaped puppet using card, wool and wiggly eyes.

Slinky Snakes - for all ages

2 - 3pm and 3 - 4pm(24 places available)

Create your own Victorian-style snake-shaped toy or key ring.

Thursday 11 August

Glorious Garden Accessories - for all ages

Create garden-inspired magic shrinking magnets and badges.

Bug and Bloom Yo-Yos - for all ages

2 - 3pm and 3 - 4pm(24 places available)

Decorate a wooden yo-yo with bug and bloom designs.

Friday 12 August

Silly Servants - for all ages

Make a Victorian-style peg doll servant toy.

The Garden Party - for all ages

2 - 3pm and 3 - 4pm(24 places available)

Prepare a picnic by decorating cakes, making homemade lemonade and sandwiches.

(Please note that owing to the high demand for places in our cooking workshops we advise that people join the queue early to avoid disappointment)
