Weekend Activities and Family Days

Join us for colourful art and craft workshops, storytelling and live musical entertainment. All activities are free. Workshop places are allocated on a first-come, first served basis 30 minutes before each activity. Children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult.

Home Front family day

Sunday 19 July, 12 - 4.30pm. Free.

A summer family day at the Geffrye Museum

Join us for a day of World War I themed activities including storytelling, drama, craft activities and more!

Our café is open all day, or bring a picnic to eat on the grass.

Storytelling: Writing Home - suitable for children aged 5+

Lasts approximately 30 - 45 minutes at 12.30pm, 1.45pm and 3.30pm 

Drop-in outside the 1910 period room

Meet Private Arthur Webb and learn about his life in the Machine Gun Corps and how he missed home-life.

Craft activity: Family Photo Frames - suitable for children aged 2+

12.15 - 1pm, 1.15 - 2pm, 2.45 - 3.30pm and 3.45 - 4.30pm

Decorate a photo frame using trench art techniques to put your family photos in.

Hands-on workshop: The Great War through a London Child’s Eye - suitable for children aged 5+

12.15 - 2pm and 2.45 - 4.30pm

Researching your Family History

Drop-in in the Reading Room between 12 - 4.30pm

Learn how to research your family history and find out whether your relatives fought in WWI, with the East London Family History Society.

Garden Cart

Drop-in by the herb garden between 1 - 4.30pm

With free sensory garden activities, such a smelling trail, matchbox treasure hunt, sound journey and more!

Demonstration: Edwardian Flowers

Drop-in by the herb garden at 2pm

Join our gardeners to learn about Edwardian-inspired flower arrangements.


Ceramics in the City craft activities

Saturday 26 - Sunday 27 September, 2 - 4pm. Free.

A family taking part in the Geffrye's March Madness event

Drop-in sessions running alongside our annual Ceramics in the City fair. Children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult.

Painted Porcelain

Saturday 26 September, 2 - 4pm

Painted a ceramic item inspired by patterns found throughout the museum.

Crazy Ceramic Headwear

Sunday 27 September, 2 - 4pm

Create ceramic-inspired headwear which will get you noticed!
