Holiday Activities

Holiday activities take place in October half-term, February half-term, the Easter Holidays, May/June half term and the summer holidays. All activities are free and are for individual children and families and are suitable for children aged 5-16 years old. All workshops are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis 30 minutes before the workshop begins. All children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult.

Summer Holiday Activities: Designer Homes and Gardens 

Tuesday 29 July - Friday 1 August, 10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm

Three weeks of free exciting activities exploring natural and man-made design in homes and gardens.  Create mini furniture ornaments, designer hats and much more!

Week 1: Tuesday 29 July

Swinging Seats - for ages 5 and over

10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Make a marvellous miniature swinging seat ornament.

Crazy Coasters - for all ages

2 - 3pm and 3 - 4pm (24 places available)

Create your own cool coaster to put your drinks on. 

Wednesday 30 July

Fountain Heads - for ages 5 and over

10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Craft a fabulous fountain-shaped hat and decorate with paper flowers, leaves and bugs.

Garden Sculptures - for all ages

2 - 3pm and 3 - 4pm (24 places available)

Create garden-inspired plant and insect sculptures using wire and other materials.

Brilliant Bags - for ages 11 and over

2 - 4pm (14 places available)

Inspired by our useful + beautiful exhibition create your own designer tote bag to take home.  

Thursday 31 July

Bug Baskets - for ages 5 and over

10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Create a beautiful basket full of beastly bugs using recycled materials.

Spice Up Your Life - for all ages

2 - 3pm and 3 - 4pm (24 places available)

Use herbs and spices to create a scented bag to ward away insects, or make your clothes smell nice.

Friday 1 August

Happy Squashy Houses - for ages 5 and over

10,30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Make a silly squashy model house using card and cotton wool.

Painted Porcelain - for all ages

2 - 3pm and 3 - 4pm (24 places available)

Paint patterns onto ceramic plates, spoons, mugs and more.


Week 2: Tuesday 5 August

Minty Moments - for ages 5 and over

10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Learn how to make cooling mint tea and decorate a glass to drink it from.

Brilliant Bird Baths - for all ages

2 - 3pm and 3 - 4pm (24 places available)

Create a crazy colourful bird bath using plates and cups.

Wednesday 6 August

Woven Wonders - for ages 5 and over

10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Learn how to weave a brilliant basket ornament using clay.

Bean Bag Beasties - all ages

2 - 3pm and 3 - 4pm (24 places available)

Make a mini bean bag animal inspired by wildlife in our gardens.

Glorious Gardens - for ages 11 and over

2 - 4pm (14 places available)

Inspired by our gardens create your own landscape garden design using water colour techniques.

Thursday 7 August

Bowled Over - for ages 5 and over

10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Design and make a special bowl to keep your treasures in.

Origami Ornaments - for all ages

2 - 3pm and 3 - 4pm (24 places available)

Make and decorate folded paper furniture ornaments to hang in your home.

Friday 8 August

Brilliant Birdy Clocks - for ages 5 and over

10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Create a real working clock and decorate it with brilliant bird motifs.

Flying Bird Mobiles - for all ages

2 - 3pm and 3 - 4pm (24 places available)

Make a fluttering bird mobile inspired by items in the museum’s collection.


Week 3: Tuesday 12 August

A Day Trip to the Geffrye - for all ages

10.30 - 11.30am, 11.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 3pm and 3 - 4pm (24 places available)

Create a postcard inspired by your trip to the Geffrye to send to friends and family.

Buzzy Bee Bonnets - for all ages

2 - 3pm and 3 - 4pm (24 places available)

Make a beehive-shaped hat with pretend bees that fly around it.

Wednesday 13 August

Bug Boppers - for all ages

10.30 - 11.30am, 11.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 3pm and 3 - 4pm (24 places available)

Create an insect decoration to brighten up your plants.

Brilliant Bunting - for all ages

2 - 3pm and 3 - 4pm (24 places available)

Create your own special hanging decoration that moves in the breeze.

Thursday 14 August

Garden Shrink Its - for all ages

10.30 - 11.30am, 11.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 3pm and 3 - 4pm (24 places available)

Use magic shrinking plastic to create key rings inspired by the museum gardens.

Peggy Pom Pom Pets - for all ages

2 - 3pm and 3 - 4pm (24 places available)

Create garden creatures using pegs, pom poms, pipe cleaners and wiggly eyes.

Friday 15 August

Windy Windmills - for all ages

10.30 - 11.30am, 11.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 3pm and 3 - 4pm (24 places available)

Make a mini windmill to catch the light as it goes round and round in the wind.

Marvellous Mirror Pictures - for all ages

2 - 3pm and 3 - 4pm (24 places available)

Create a marvellous mirror picture decorated with plants to hang on your wall.
