Holiday Activities

Holiday activities take place in October half-term, February half-term, the Easter Holidays, May/June half term and the summer holidays. All activities are free and are for individual children and families and are suitable for children aged 5-16 years old. All workshops are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis 30 minutes before the workshop begins. All children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult.

Half-term activities: Happy Birthday to the Geffrye!

Tuesday 28 - Friday 31 October, 10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm

Join us as we celebrate our anniversary year. Bake special treats, create party-ware and make decorations.

Tuesday 28 October

Bats in the Belfry - for ages 5 and over

10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Make a flying bat puppet inspired by the creatures that live in our bell tower.

A Day in the Life for ages 5 - 8

2 - 4pm (14 places available)

Step into the shoes of former school boy resident Ernest Baker and create a cartoon of his adventures.

Clay Cake Candlesticks for ages 8 and over

2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Craft a celebration cake-shaped candle holder from clay.

Pet Puppets - for all ages

Drop in anytime between 2pm and 4pm (20 places available)

Create an animal puppet using wooden spoons, felt and other materials.

Wednesday 29 October

Bug Hotel for ages 5 and over

10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Use recycled materials to create a home for insects to live in over the winter months.

Skull Lights - for ages 8 and over

2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Use card, wire and tape to create a working skull-shaped wall light. 

Luminous Lanterns - for ages 11 and over

2 - 4pm (14 places available)

Create decorative lanterns inspired by patterns in our collection.  

Mini Mobiles - for all ages

Drop in anytime between 2pm and 4pm (20 places available)

Make a magnificent mini mobile packed full of Geffrye history.

Thursday 30 October

Textile Tea Cakes - for ages 5 and over

10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Join in the celebrations and create pretend cup cakes and a cake stand using fabrics, sequins and other materials.

Celebration Bakes - for ages 5 - 8

2 - 4pm (14 places available)

Be inspired by our period rooms to create decorative celebration cup cakes. 

(Please note that owing to the high demand for places in our cooking workshops we advise that people join the queue early to avoid disappointment)

Fabulous Felted Mini Beasts - for ages 8 and over

2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Craft a marvellous mini beast using felt making techniques. 

Black Cat Badges and Necklaces - for all ages

Drop in anytime between 2pm and 4pm (20 places available)

Make spooky cat-shaped badges and necklaces ready for Halloween.

Friday 31 October

Ghosts of Geffrye Past - for ages 5 and over

10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Make spooky hats, have your face painted and make treats all inspired by past Geffrye residents.

Hubble Bubble - for ages 8 and over

2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Create scented mini beast soaps and a warming body lotion to take home.

Fragrant Candles - for ages 11 and over

2 - 4pm (14 places available)

Inspired by autumn colours and smells in our collection create your own tinted and fragrant candles.

Trick or Tweet - for all ages

Drop in anytime between 2pm and 4pm (20 places available)

Craft a moving bird table decoration that hides a sweet treat for your guests.

Get in the mood for spring! Bake herbal biscuits, create seasonal headwear and take part in a treasure hunt around the gardens.
