Holiday Activities

Holiday activities take place in October half-term, February half-term, the Easter Holidays, May/June half term and the summer holidays. All activities are free and are for individual children and families and are suitable for children aged 5-16 years old. All workshops are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis 30 minutes before the workshop begins. All children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult.

May half-term holiday activities: Give Me Shelter

Tuesday 26 - Friday 29 May 2015, 10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm

Creative workshop at the Geffrye Museum

Explore different types of shelters form the past and present day, including garden homes in celebration of Chelsea Fringe. Make nest hats, Victorian paper dolls, animal homes and more.

Tuesday 26 May

Knotty Nest Hats - for ages 5 and over

10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Use twigs, ribbons, wool and other materials to create your own wacky woven nest-inspired headwear.

Peg People - for ages 5 - 8 years

2 - 4pm(14 places available)

Make a fun family of peg puppet people as well as a home for them to live in.

Tip Top Timepieces - for ages 8 and over

2 - 4pm(24 places available)

Create a wonderful working house-shaped clock that glows in the dark.


Wednesday 27 May

Oliver Twist Toy Theatre - for ages 5 and over

10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Be inspired by the tale of Oliver Twist and create your own terrific toy theatre.

Mounted Clay Animals - for ages 8 and over

2 - 4pm(24 places available)

Use clay to model an animal-head-shaped ornament to hang in your room.

Beautiful Bird Houses - for ages 11 and over

2 - 4pm (14 places available)

Decorate a wonderful wooden birdhouse with garden-inspired designs.


Thursday 28 May

Hanging Garden Houses - for ages 5 and over

10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm(24 places available)

Build a crazy colourful woven structure to shelter garden mini beasts.

Animal Homes - for ages 5 - 8 years

2 - 4pm (14 places available)

Craft a mini garden creature from clay and then make a home for it to live in.

Musical Bird Hangings - for ages 8 and over

2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Create a magical bird hanging ornament using felt making techniques.

A day of garden-themed events to celebrate the Chelsea Fringe 


Friday 29 May

Giant Bed Bug and Fleas if you Please - for ages 5 and over

10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Create a giant scary sculpture of a creature who might have lived in your bed 150 years ago.

Paper People - for ages 8 and over

2 - 4pm (24 places available)

Craft Victorian-style people portraits and turn them into magnets to put on your fridge at home.

Penny Pot People - for ages 11 and over

2 - 4pm (14 places available)

Create a garden animal-inspired money box to keep your pennies safe.


Workshops are free for children and families. Children under 11 must be accompanied in the workshops and in the museum.

All workshops are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis 30 minutes before the workshop begins.

Summer holiday activities: Sensory Homes and Gardens

Tuesday 28 July - Friday 31 July, Tuesday 4 – Friday 7 August and Tuesday 11-Friday 14 August, 10.30am - 12.30pm and 2 - 4pm

Three weeks of free exciting summer activities, exploring the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of our gardens and period rooms. Create lotions and potions, garden-inspired drinks and more!

Get in the mood for spring! Bake herbal biscuits, create seasonal headwear and take part in a treasure hunt around the gardens.
