Short course: House and Home in Victorian London

Room 6 A drawing room in 1870

  • Thursday 22 April - Thursday 1 July, 3.00 - 5.00pm, 11 meetings.

This module explores how the material world of the home shaped family life in Victorian London by considering class and gender identities and domestic roles and rituals. We will look at family relationships across society: in the 'slums' and lodging houses, middle-class suburban villas and aristocratic townhouses. Led by historian Leonie Hannan.

In partnership with Birkbeck College. For details of course fees and booking information please visit: www.bbc.ac.uk
