About the Collections Library

Please check tfl.gov.uk for closures on the Overground, particularly at weekends.

The Museum entrance is opposite Hoxton Station (London Overground), on Geffrye Street and provides step-free access from trains to the Museum.

You can also enter the Museum from Kingsland Road. This is the best entrance to use if you are arriving by bus, using a Blue Badge parking bay and for drop-offs by car. The Blue Badge parking bays are alongside the Museum gates and allow parking for up to 3 hours, 10am–4pm.

We recommend allowing at least one hour for your visit, or as long as you wish. 

Our rooms, exhibits and gardens change throughout the year and we love welcoming visitors back in all seasons. 

Kindly note that consuming food or drink in the Museum galleries and the Gardens Through Time is not permitted.

Picnics

You are welcome to picnic in the Kingsland Road Gardens, please take your rubbish home with you or use the bins we provide.

Lunchroom & child-friendly eating

We welcome families with young children at the Museum. We have a lunch room at the north end of the galleries (just before Rooms Through Time begin). 

Museum café

Our quietest times are usually weekday and Sunday afternoons after 3pm. Our busiest time is usually between 12pm and 3pm on Saturdays, bank holidays and during school holidays.  

Some of our spaces, particularly the Home Galleries, are small and can feel busy. Quieter spaces away from the main galleries include the Lunch Room, Reading Lounge and the Gardens Through Time. 

Animals

We do not allow animals into the gardens or Museum buildings, unless they are registered guide, assistant and companion animals and are wearing their tabards/harness. Please bring the relevant identification book with you.

Smoking and vaping

Smoking or vaping is not permitted anywhere on site.

Photography

We love to see the photos our visitors take but please do not use flash, tripods or extra lighting.

Consideration for others

Please consider other visitors when using your phone in the galleries and gardens. Please respect the space of other visitors. 

Staff security

We do not tolerate any verbal or physical abuse of our staff or visitors.

Unaccompanied children

Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult inside the Museum and in the Museum grounds. The Museum reserves the right to refuse admittance to any unaccompanied child under the age of 12.

Looking after our gardens

Help us protect our gardens so that everyone can enjoy them

• ball games and sports are not allowed in the gardens
• picking or pruning is not allowed
• use the paths and avoid walking over planted areas
• bicycles, tricycles, roller skates, skateboards, micro-scooters, balance bikes and other vehicles (except powered wheelchairs) must be left at the gates, or secured at the cycle racks. Items are left at your own risk.
• drones and other remotely controlled aircraft are not allowed
• please don't bring radios, music players and musical instruments into the gardens

No commercial activities may be undertaken in the gardens except as part of the Museum's authorised events.
