This room shows how a married couple living in the Geffrye almshouses during the 1780s may have furnished it.
This was their only living space, where they cooked, ate and slept.
Surviving lists of pensioners, which date from 1785 and 1786, tell us that a fair proportion of them were couples, some with children. However, this became less common in the nineteenth century
