October Half Term Holiday Activities for Children aged 3 - 16

Tuesday 25 – Friday 28 October 2011
This half term, we are exploring the ways in which homes have been used for entertainment and fun for hundreds of years. Activities will include making toys, having tea parties, baking, creating books and much more, so come along and join in the fun.
All activities are free. Workshop places allocated on a first-come, first-served basis 30 minutes in advance. Children under eleven must be accompanied by an adult.
Tuesday 25 October
Ages 3-5 Nursery Rhyme Time: Happy Homes (10.30-11.30am and 12.00noon-1.00pm)
Explore what makes a happy home in this interactive storytelling and craft session.
Ages 5 and over Character Books(10.30am-12.30pm and 2.00-4.00pm)
Create an animal-shaped character book.
Ages 5-8 Mad Hatter’s Tea Party(2.00 – 4.00pm)
Taste teas, learn about afternoon tea parties and create a pop-up cake hat.
Ages 8 and over Cosy Tea Time (2.00 – 4.00pm)
Learn how to make felt and create a terrific tea cosy.
All Ages Ring Ring Bling (Drop in anytime between 2.00 – 4.00pm)
Make a fake phone which rings from sparkly and recycled materials.
Wednesday 26 October
Ages 3-5 Nursery Rhyme Time: Sweet Treats (10.30-11.30am and 12.00noon-1.00pm)
Explore special tea-time treats in this interactive storytelling and craft session.
Ages 5 and over Watch This Space (10.30am-12.30pm and 2.00-4.00pm)
Make a pretend TV with a 3D scene inside.
Ages 8 and over Moon Festival Party (2.00-4.00pm)
Bake tasty moon festival biscuits and decorate Chinese lanterns.
Ages 11 and over Nineties Nosh (2.00-4.00pm)
Cook tasty recipes from popular 1990’s cook books.
All Ages Teddy Bears’ Picnic (Drop in anytime between 2.00 – 4.00pm)
Transform a wooden spoon into a teddy bear or doll puppet.
Thursday 27 October
Ages 3-5 Nursery Rhyme Time: Light Up the Night (10.30-11.30am and 12.00 noon -1.00pm)
Explore different lighting in the home in this interactive storytelling and craft session.
Ages 5 and over Animal Antics(10.30am-12.30pm and 2.00-4.00pm)
Create a polar bear skittle game to play in your living room.
Ages 5-8 Festive Foliage(2.00-4.00pm)
Create a festive wreath using leaves, herbs, tissue paper and beads.
Ages 8 and over Get Organised! (2.00-4.00pm)
Construct and decorate a desk tidy to keep stationery in.
All Ages Tea Time Notes (Drop in anytime between 2.00 – 4.00pm)
Make a biscuit or tea-cup shaped note card to invite your friends for tea.
Friday 28 October
Ages 3-5 Nursery Rhyme Time: Radio Times (10.30-11.30am and 12.00 noon -1.00pm)
Explore radios, TVs and records in this interactive storytelling and craft session.
Ages 5 and over Halloween Dream (10.30am-12.30pm and 2.00-4.00pm)
Be inspired by animals in the museum to create a spooky hat, then make a delicious toffee apple.
Ages 8 and over You’ve Got Mail (2.00-4.00pm)
Create a letter rack to hold all of your mail.
Ages 11 and over Tea Time Treats (2.00-4.00pm)
Learn about tea etiquette, taste different teas and bake delicious biscuits.
All Ages Monster Masks (Drop in anytime between 2.00 – 4.00pm)
Make a mad monster mask and scare your friends!

Create a fun hat for Fireworks night.
Ages 5 and over Saturday 3 December: Art Deco Decorations (10.30am-12.30pm and 2.00-4.00pm)
Make an array of delightful 1930s Christmas decorations.
Ages 3-5 Saturday 3 December: Christmas Fun (10.30-11.30am and 12.00 noon -1.00pm)
Listen to stories, sing festive songs and make Christmas decorations.
All Ages Saturday 3 December: Christmas Carols (10.30-11.30am and 12.00 noon-1.00pm)
Sing along to some of your favourite Christmas carols.
All Ages Thursday 8 December: Open Evening – Find Your Festive Spirit (5.00-8.00pm)
Enjoy the Christmas Past exhibition by candlelight, listen to a seasonal gallery talk, sing along to live festive music,
Or bring children to a decoration-making workshop. Come and get merry!
All Ages Friday 6 January 2012: Farewell to Christmas (4.00-5.00pm)
Join us for our Twelfth Night celebrations – burning of the holly and the ivy, stories, carols and cake.
Ages 5 and over Saturday 7 January 2012: Bean Kings and Pea Queens (10.30am-12.30pm and 2.00-4.00pm)
Craft an ephiphany crown and really regal accessories.
