Ceramics in the City returns to the Geffrye Museum in September with an exciting new range of work by 50 selected ceramicists, a mix of both well-known names and emerging talents. An array of styles, techniques, colour and texture will be shown in domestic objects ranging from functional tableware and lamps to purely aesthetic or quirky one-off pieces.
The show will take place in the Geffrye’s dynamic contemporary gallery. A special preview evening will be held from 6 - 8.30pm on Thursday 17 September, offering visitors an extra chance to meet the makers. The restaurant will be open serving meals, light snacks and drinks.
Throughout the three-day event, visitors will have the opportunity not just to browse and buy, but also to talk to the ceramicists and watch free demonstrations. Special craft activities will be run to entertain children throughout Saturday and Sunday.
The exhibitors were selected by a panel of judges comprising Marta Donaghey from Contemporary Ceramics, Karen Bunting, ceramicist, and Christine Lalumia, Deputy Director of the Geffrye. Ceramics in the City, now in its eighth year, is organised by the Geffrye Museum and ceramicist Karen Bunting.
Informal demonstrations and talks will be run throughout the event:
Create a painted tile inspired by patterns in the museum’s rooms.
Be inspired by ceramic objects to create a mask.
