An exciting chance to study our superb collection of Victorian paintings in a unique setting.
Pupils will learn to 'read' a painting and consider symbolism and historical context, in order to reveal values in Victorian society. Students will be encouraged to compare and contrast the artists' choice of subject, setting and theme and work in small groups to investigate a painting and present a 'reading' to the class.
This session supports the National Curriculum programme of study on 'Victorian Britain'.
Our Victorian drawing room is the setting for a stimulating exploration of domestic family life which is complemented by a handling session with original artefacts. Pupils will be encouraged to investigate the display in order to develop their understanding of this period and improve their skills in interpreting primary sources. This session supports the National Curriculum programme of study on 'Victorian Britain'.
