The Magic Wishing Room by Masoom, Nadim, Imran, Bigland Green Primary School, Tower Hamlets.

The Geffrye is the perfect place to bring Reception and KS 1 pupils for their first museum visit.

In these specially developed story sessions pupils will:

  • develop imaginative and creative thinking skills within an authentic historical context
  • practice speaking and listening skills
  • be encouraged to draw their own illustrations

A Chair's Tale

This imaginative story follows a carved oak chair through time, from its creation in the late-16th century and prominent position in a merchant's house in London to adventures in a nursery, attic, antique shop and finally a museum. Historical themes, language and ideas around craftsmanship, ownership and chronology will be subtly woven into the story, making this both a valuable learning experience and an innovative, interactive story telling session.

Albert the Mouse

An exciting story set in the Edwardian Room, full of bygone magic and historical vocabulary to recreate the escapades of a very naughty mouse! Children are invited to illustrate a scene from the story.

Tales of London Homes

Our fun new story encourages children to think about what makes a home. A Londoner looking for a home is offered a variety of places to live by the characters she meets on her journey. Where does she decide to go, and why? At the end of the session there will be an opportunity for drawing.

The Magic Wishing Room

A lively tale of mystery and magic specially devised to be told in the Edwardian room. Children will find out about home life in the past and will be encouraged to develop imaginative and creative thinking within an authentic historical context. At the end of the session they will draw a scene or objects from the story.
