16th Century Horn Beakers
The class will explore the historical tradition of making and using containers, and will see containers from a variety of the museum’s period rooms. Children will have an opportunity to handle containers from different periods in history and there will also be a chance to view the work of a contemporary ceramicist and to look at work from different cultures. The children will create a series of sketches that can be used as a basis for their own designs. This session supports QCA Unit 5B 'Containers'.
Sketching The English Regional Chair Exhibition
This session looks at the form, function and history of the domestic chair. The class will study chairs from different periods of history and consider who would have owned and sat upon them. They will make close observational sketches which can be used as the basis for a design of their own back at school. This session supports QCA Unit 4B 'Take a Seat'.
Glorious Gardens session in the period gardens
During this session pupils will familiarise themselves with a range of historic plants and flowers and will learn and use techniques involved in watercolour painting. Children will create their own watercolours in our tranquil period garden rooms.
This session can be conducted in any of our period garden rooms, including our Victorian and Tudor gardens. This session supports QCA Unit 2B 'Mother Nature: Designer'.
Session available from April to October.
