20th Century

A loft conversion in 1998 and a living room in 1965

The 1990s Room and the Mid-Century Room

Homes then and now

Room comparison for KS1 and 2

A marvellous opportunity to look at the similarities and differences between homes today and in the past. By comparing and contrasting any two of our period rooms children will be able to explore time-related vocabulary and changes in technology and lifestyles. A popular session compares a 20th century room with one of our earlier displays showing life before electricity.

This supports QCA Unit 2 and is designed to address the question 'What were homes like a long time ago'?

Your class will be divided into two groups and the class teacher will lead the session looking at the 1990s room as an example of 'contemporary' life. The Geffrye teacher will lead the session in one of the earlier period rooms; the groups will then swap rooms.

This sessions requires INSET where teaching notes will be provided.
