Writers in Rooms

Key Stage 3/4 English

writers_rooms

During this session students of literature get to see a physical context for texts dated between 1600 and 1990 studied at KS 3 & 4. This approach will enable readers to visualise written material and provide inspiration for students’ own writing.

A selection of texts will be read, in which an aspect of an interior is described. Pupils will use these descriptions to generate questions regarding the inhabitants of the room and their contextual social history.

Choosing their preferred style, pupils will develop their own text including a character, an incident and a setting.

Current suggested texts include:

Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen
Howard's End, EM Forster
Moll Flanders, Daniel Defoe
The End of the Affair, Graham Greene
The Diary of Samuel Pepys
