Friends receive a six-monthly programme of events, including specially arranged visits to lesser-known museums, private collections, galleries and places of historic interest. Sometimes there is a guided walk or a quiz. Bookings must be made in advance by post.
A regular Newsletter and events leaflet keeps Friends informed of new developments and forthcoming exhibitions. To download past Newsletters click on Newsletter Archives.
The Friends are also invited to some private views at the museum and are eligible for reduced rates to various events held at the museum, such as Study Days and tours of the Geffrye's newly restored 18th century almshouse. This almshouse has been taken back to its original condition and offers a rare glimpse into the lives of London's poor and elderly in the 1780s and 1880s.
The Annual General Meeting of the Friends is held at the museum followed by an illustrated talk on a subject related to the museum's collections and is given by a distinguished speaker.
All these activities help to finance acquisitions and special projects. Friends are also active within the museum as volunteers.
