20th Century Living RoomsPage 2
Modernism was a minority style in the 1930s, but it had a great influence on later interiors. It emphasised efficiency, light and cleanliness, with flush surfaces and little decoration. Light colours, pale woods and woven fabrics were characteristic. It was a style which tended to appeal to people without children, living in apartments.
