19th Century TextilesPage 2

Textiles manufactured in the north of England were readily available in a wide variety of materials and patterns. Printed cotton, known as chintz, often with a floral pattern on a light ground, was especially popular for loose covers and curtains. Red velvet upholstery is often seen in paintings of nineteenth century interiors.
