19th Century FurniturePage 2

As the century progressed furniture was produced in an ever increasing variety of styles. In the middle years of the century the middle classes generally favoured furniture of elaborate decorative design and high finish and it was fashionable to fill the parlour with as many pieces of furniture as possible. However, this approach was criticised by reforming designers and writers who favoured simpler, more restrained, forms and finishes.
