19th Century FloorsPage 1

Parlours were generally laid with a fitted carpet, which was sometimes protected from wear and dirt by a 'drugget', which was a hard-wearing canvas cloth nailed over the areas which bore the most use. In the first half of the century, carpet patterns were often geometric, as seen here, and these were gradually replaced by scrolls and flowers.
