18th Century OrnamentsPage 2

Although the choice of decorative ornaments available to the middling sort was increasing towards the end of the century, there is little evidence to show that people at this level of society were in the habit of acquiring objects simply for display. Most of what they had was for a purpose, either for use at table or for a particular activity; an item might be decorative, but it generally had a useful function too.
