Although people in the middle ranks of society appear to have had far fewer ornaments than is common today, there was an increasing choice of decorative ceramics available, both made in England and imported from the continent and the Far East. Most of the pieces were functional, used for dining or taking tea, but items such as vases for flowers were displayed as decorative objects in their own right.
