18th Century FurniturePage 2

Tripod tables of this form were introduced from the late 1720s and were particularly associated with taking tea. When not in use the top could be tipped into a vertical position and the table would be placed in a corner. These practical and useful tables remained popular throughout the eighteenth century and are frequently seen in paintings of the middling sort in their parlours.
