|This half length portrait depicts a woman with her head turned to her left. She is shown wearing a low cut amber coloured dress with a white chemise with a frill underneath, which is visible at the neck. She wears a pearl necklace and earrings as well as a jewel on her right shoulder. The portrait is encircled by a painted imitation stone surround with acanthus carving. The name of the sitter, 'Barbara Villers, Duchess of Cleveland' is painted in gold letters in the top left hand corner of the portrait.
